Description
Located in the magical Oliphant’s River Valley, Clanwilliam Lodge is a colloquial gem emerging off the beaten track, oasis-like in its unforgiving semi-desert habitat. Only a two hours’ drive from Cape Town, the lodge offers 32 luxurious air-conditioned rooms, a poolside restaurant, a treatment room and delicious cuisine.
All rooms are luxuriously air-conditioned and have en-suite bathrooms. Junior and Presidential Suites have the option of a balcony. All our suites have showers and baths, and all other rooms are fitted with showers. Our Premiere Rooms and suites have DVD players and DVD rentals are available.
Our conference facilities can cater for up to 30 delegates. The beauty salon offers treatments such as facials, massages and manicures. Come and spoil yourself. Visitors should prepare to enjoy balmy summer days lounging on Bedouin daybeds at the pool and hot windless nights in pure understated luxury. This is where half measures are only available on request from the bar.
A hearty buffet breakfast is served in the restaurant every morning and is included in your stay. Choose from our light lunch menu and dinner is either á la carte or an extensive buffet spread. Picnic hampers are available on request, or experience the nearby Lambert’s Bay eatery called Muisbosskerm for a sublime seafood treat.
Founded in 1732, the picturesque Cape Dutch homestead of Clanwilliam is one of the 10 oldest towns in the country. Tucked away at the foot of the Cederberg Mountains and perched on one of the country’s favourite dams, its rich settler history offers a central location for a variety of attractions from flower viewing to Bushman art and a range of water sports. In keeping with the rich history of the area, Clanwilliam Lodge itself is a transformed girls’ hostel, originally built by the Provincial Administration in 1916. Much of the furnishings in the lodge are made from wood from the original building. Clanwilliam is also famous for growing and cultivating Rooibos Tea and for its original leather “veldskoene” factory. Clanwilliam is 212 km from Cape Town and a two-hour drive by car.

Clanwilliam Lodge in Clanwilliam Reviewed by Leoni Kruger, South Africa on . Not recommendedWe have been using SafariNow since 2008 to book our stay at various locations, that is from the West Coast, Namakwaland, South Coast, The Midlands, Namibia and now for the 1st time we have had a terrible stay at one of the lodges recommended by SafariNow, i.e., at the Clanwilliam Lodge. For the 1st time we have felt that the 4 rating on your website is not close to what this lodge is in real life, stained sheets, shabby furniture, .....
From my side therefore not recommended at all!
Clanwilliam Lodge in Clanwilliam Reviewed by JUDY GOVENDER, South Africa on . Very good My husband and I stayed at the Clanwilliam Lodge from 25 - 27 January 2013. Despite reading negative reviews on the internet, we had a wonderful time and enjoyed the lovely room and pool fully. The room and bathroom were furnished beautifully and extremely clean and modern. The pool area was lovely with plenty of relaxing beds with canopies. We have no complaints about the breakfast we ate there as we did not go looking for faults. The staff were friendly and helpful and we will definitely go back.
