Description
Grootfontein Private Nature Reserve is a 1,200-hectare bushveld farm located just three hours from Gauteng in the beautiful Limpopo Province, near the eco-tourism town of Thabazimbi. This fourth generation working family farm welcomes all lovers of the great African outdoors. Grootfontein is a half hour drive along a dirt road from the main road, so it is off-the-grid living.

The reserve offers accommodation in four bush lodges and two campsites that are all unique from each other and perfect for short or long stays. Guests can enjoy hot showers powered by gas, DStv powered by solar, a gas fridge, and solar powered lights.

Here, guests will find tranquility and pristine, untouched bushveld landscape that is home to over 150 species of birds, 160 species of trees, and a wonderful range of animals including zebra, giraffe, kudu, impala, waterbuck, bushbuck, Blue wildebeest, nyala, waterhog, and leopard. Since the farm does not offer the Big 5, geusts are free to explore the area on foot. We are also only an hour’s drive from Pilanesburg and Marekele National Parks where the Big 5 can be viewed.

In addition, we offer hiking, birding, 4x4 trails, kayaking, mountain biking, as well as themed weekends for photographers and art lovers. Grootfontein Private Nature Reserve in Thabazimbi Reviewed by Isabelle Nolet, South Africa on . Great hospitality Enjoyed our stay at Grootfontein. We stayed in Voelstop with our 2 little ones (3 and 1 year old). We mountained biked, hiked and did some game drives on the farm. Our little ones really loved the trampoline, the rock pool (at Aloe Lodge) and running around on the farm! The accommodation was rustic and Jan was probably the friendliest host we have ever met. Thanks for a great long weekend!
