Description
With vines to one side and a kranz to the other, Calitzdorp Railway Station offers travellers an idyllic space to rest before venturing forth to explore the surrounding Route 62 area. Guests have a choice of staying in the backpackers, or Safari Tents.

The backpackers are furnished with bunk beds, and linen is available on request. When camping, guests can choose to stay in their own tents or in one of the camp tents furnished with blow-up mattresses and bedding. The Safari Tents are furnished with a double or two single bed and linen and towels are also provided. Each campsite is equipped with electricity and water and also has its own barbecue area.

The backpackers, and tents share modern ablution facilities with hot showers, as well as a kitchen with a fridge, a gas hob and cutlery and crockery. Meals and Nespresso coffee are also available on request.
The Station also offers facilities to host functions and have been the choice venue for film shoots, weddings, weekend workshops, and the local Port Wine Festival.

The typical little Karoo town of Calitzdorp is probably mostly recognized for its production of some of the country’s best port wines. Queen Street is one of the oldest streets in town and begs a stroll to properly absorb the number of Edwardian, Victorian and Karoo-style buildings heavily influenced by English architecture. Activities include walking trails in the Gamkaberg Nature Reserve, the Redstone Hills and at Retreat at Groenfontein. Birding in the hills and fynbos area are also more than rewarding. Calitzdorp Railway Station in Calitzdorp Reviewed by Elana van der Wath, South Africa on . Lovely camping experience We camped for 11 nights and had a wonderful time! The location is beautiful, facilities are clean and everything met all our needs. Cheryl and Michael are the perfect hosts and were exceptionally helpful and generous! We enjoyed the fact that there is a bar on site and we were able to get to know other guests and socialise a bit. It was excellent value for money and we would recommend it any day! Thank you for a lovely stay! :)
