Description
Tucked away at the foot of the world-famous Brandwacht Mountains, in a peaceful rustic environment near Cape Town, this African Big 5 game reserve surrounded by proteas and fynbos vegetation not only offers game drives and bush safaris, but is also home to a African Khoisan Bushmen Rock Art Heritage Site dating back some 6,000 years.

The name Fairy Glen originates from a very large dragonfly which was found from time to time in their natural habitat in the valley mountain streams, known as Fairy Glen. The African-style restaurant serves mostly traditional food and caters for vegetarian and vegan guests, and overnight guests can choose from standard to luxury accommodation.

Fairy Glen Private Game Reserve not only hosts Cape Town's nearest Big 5, but also species such as blue wildebeest, giraffe, eland, the endangered bontebok, zebra, lynx, oryx and other smaller buck species including klipspringer, nyala, rhebok, steenbok and a big variety of African bird species, including the endangered black eagle better known as the Aquila.

Fairy Glen Game Reserve in Worcester Reviewed by Anonymous, South Africa on . A safari through a zoo; 2 of the big 5 in enclosures This is not a place for a real safari through African wildlife. 2 of their big 5 are in enclosures. They have 3 lions in a VERY SMALL enclosure with about 1 meter of shade only, very sad to see. The entire used space is 1000 hectares, which you see in 5 mins in your car, but they drive in a lumpy truck that looks cool but only drives 5km per hour on good roads take much longer to cover the same space you already saw from your car in the 5 minute drive. You share the drive with about 20 other people, not very cosy. Hard to get a photo of animals with no fences or houses or electrical cables on sight. Not wild at all.The food is a very small buffet, and dietary requests are not taken into consideration. No value for money at all. The staff could not find our reservation made 1 month in advance and paid for. The lodges were lovely and large, with a rooftop deck viewing the mountains great for a glass of wine under the stars. If you want to go and relax, this is the place. If you want to cross wild animals off your check list, visit your local zoo instead.
