Description
Nestled between the Langeberg Mountains and the Breede River, the Robertson Wine Valley forms part of the longest wine route in the world, Route 62.  The town of  Robertson was founded in 1853 and named after a Scottish Dutch Reformed Church Minister, Dr. William Robertson.  It had initially been famous for its ostrich farming, but this industry collapsed after World War 2, when farmers turned to wine, fruit and olive farming as well as world renowned racehorse breeding.

Gannakop guest house is situated on the 330ha Arbeidsgenot (work joy or work in joy) farm in the Eilandia Valley on the Breede River. Gannakop is named after the “Ganna” plant witch grows widely on the hillside and produces a beautiful yellow flower after the first winter rains.  The farm produces plums and apricots for the export as well as wine grapes for the local market. The old milkstall (see gallery) has been transformed into a rustic luxury self catering house.  While guests will enjoy all the amenities of a modern guesthouse, many of the original features of the farm have been retained.

On arrival, guests will be welcomed in typical country hospitality, by Mike and Maryke van Schoor who live on the farm.  Maryke can assist with catering arrangements for groups of 20 or more, on request.

Gannakop Guest House in Robertson Reviewed by Ann-Marie Breen, South Africa on . Amazing find! Top class place in hideaway valley. I couldn't believe what we walked into when we arrived at Gannakop. The place really was immaculate, beautifully decked out luxury and so well equipped that it has to be the absolute best equipped self-catering I've ever stayed in. This is really a 5* stay and we even had efficient and unobtrusive service twice a day included in the cost. It's a one minute drive from Bon Cap wine estate so if you're in need of a venue close by, this gets my thumbs up! Thanks Gannakop - it was perfect.
