Description
A majestic construction of stone and mortar, in the style of medieval castles of myth and fantasy, is Stone-Castle. With three storeys, and built right on the beach by Charl and Adsie Rossouw, the castle is a magnificent new addition to the tranquil stretch of coastline along Bluewater Bay in the Saldanha Bay area of the Cape West Coast. Stone-Castle offers shelter and warm food for the weary traveller. The thick stone walls and high ceilings, heavy doors and staircases leading to high towers, make it a castle in the real sense of the word. Visit Stone-Castle and experience the wonder and hospitality of a fairytale world.

Stone-Castle offers the hospitality and comfort of the Old World, and no castle is complete without towers. The rooms, from the luxurious to the quaint, are furnished with heavy, hand-carved beds, cupboards, and dressers. The rooms are all equipped with the necessary requirements, including a shower, old-style basin and toilet, TV, tea and coffee-making facilities, and boast fantastic views over Saldanha Bay.

Between the towers, on the roof of the castle, is a large entertainment area where guests can enjoy drinks and a barbecue under the sun, with a most spectacular view over the entire bay. The kitchen boils and steams with aromas of foods being prepared on the ancient cast-iron stove, and the great dining hall comfortably seats 50 people. Dinner is a grandiose affair, and after-dinner drinks are enjoyed around a magnificent fireplace. In addition, the castle has its own collection of books and a comfortable lounge in which to read and relax, while a study with a large desk of hand-carved oak provides guests with Internet access.

The Cape West Coast is filled with an array of fynbos and wild flowers, white sandy beaches, and a diverse assortment of activities including shopping, lovely seafood restaurants, boat trips, and scenic ventures. There is also a range of outdoor activities including hiking, game viewing, bird watching, and water sports. Stone-Castle offers a unique way to experience the wonders of the West Coast.

Guest house from hell Although this beautiful view is portrayed on the website, it is a view from the ocean and in fact it is in a cramped cul-de-sac. We had chosen this venue because of its romantic setting - what a let-down! It was freezing cold on the day we arrived - there were no heaters in the rooms and no electric blankets on the beds. The showers were so small that we decided just to "splash & dip" as there was no way in which we could move around in them. All in all, the most unpleasant experience of our trip! Will not recommend this place to anybody.
