Ever dreamed about staying on your own island, surrounded by water and being wakened by the clear calls of hundreds of water and other birds from the early morning dense fog.

This is exactly what Louis and Roenette offers guests at their luxurious Island Water Villa close to Memel in the Eastern Free State, and only about two hours’ drive from Johannesburg and surrounds.

Memel means surrounded by water and is a popular destination because of the colourful splendour of the thousands of birds, and especially water birds, which are found in the Seekoeivlei Wetlands, surround the small and peaceful hamlet of Memel.

Island Water Villa lives up to this and is surrounded by an almost 50 hectare lake and its colourful inhabitants.

The spacious villa of stone under thatch sleeps ten guests in four rooms and is reached by means of a suspension bridge of 100 metres. There is a large 'stoep' with extended wooden deck - excellent for fly fishing for Florida bass - with a sunny braai area.

The large open-plan lounge, dining room, kitchen and indoor barbecue/fireplace area offers spacious and luxurious comfort. All the furniture, doors, staircases and windows were handcrafted from antique logs and unite the rustic atmosphere.
