The best located B&B accommodation in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. Situated a mere 600 metres from the Cascades shopping centre, Virgin Active gym, world class mountain bike and running trails, we have it all.

Comfortable accommodation with self-catering facilities, Wi-Fi, spacious rooms, warm hospitality, high standards. Extremely well located for tourists, business people and recreational activities. Gecko Hill B&B is unique and popular with local and international guests.

The theme at Gecko Hill is rustic African in keeping with our thriving indigenous garden. Guests are assured of a comfortable, peaceful stay with a warm, personal yet non-intrusive touch. We encourage guests to relax and appreciate the garden, bird life and lovely views of the forested hills overlooking the Montrose valley.
Two self-catering cottages; Acacia and Stinkwood and one en suite light self-catering room Albizia Suite provide a variety of spacious, well-appointed accommodation options.

All cottages have private patio and entrance, kitchenette, secure parking, hospitality tray, serviced daily except Sundays and public holidays, bath and shower and DStv.

Stinkwood has an open-plan kitchen/dining room, lounge with two single beds, and en-suite bedroom with double bed. Acacia has an Open-plan bedroom, lounge, dining room/kitchen, two single beds or one king-size beds, lounge has two armchairs and bathroom. Albizia Suite has an en-suite shower bedroom two single beds or one king-size bed, TV, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, and is equipped for light self-catering.
Regret only one vehicle per unit can be accommodated.

Nearby attractions includes Cascades Shopping Centre with restaurants and is a short 600m walk away, state of the art Virgin Active gym is 500m away, Cascades Office Park 800m stroll away, Liberty Midlands Mall is a 3km drive, The Royal Show Grounds 2km away, Victoria Country Club and office park overlook our suburb of Montrose and is approximately 3km away.

Two nature reserves are in close proximity: Queen Elizabeth Park and Ferncliff Nature Reserve both have walking trails and picnic areas. We are in close proximity to independent boys and girls schools eg Cordwalles, The Wykeham Collegiate, while Maritzburg College, Girls High School and St Charles College are a 10 minutes’ drive across town. The village of Hilton is a short 5 minutes’ drive away. Cowan House Prep School and St Anne’s School for Girls are both situated in this area.

We are a short stroll away from Greys Hospital approximately 1km away. An extensive network of mountain bike trails in the forest-covered hills is a mere 800m away; this includes the course used in the recent World Downhill Champs. The start of the Comrades Marathon is a mere 2km away and is a quick, direct drive. Redlands Office Park is situated approximately 2.5 km away. The start of the Duzi Canoe Marathon is a short 10 min drive across town.

Two major dams, Midmar and Albert Falls are both a short easy drive away approximately 25 minute. The world famous Midmar Mile, fantastic bass fishing and varied water sports are all popular at both dams. Durban’s beautiful beaches and numerous tourist attractions are a quick 45 minutes’ drive away. The Drakensberg Mountains southern and central Berg are a scenic drive away approximately 2 hours.

The famous Midlands Meander arts and crafts route which includes numerous and varied country restaurants is easy to access in the vicinity of Midmar Dam and the nearby village of Howick. The spectacular Howick Falls and Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve are highly recommended in Howick. A short drive from Howick is the birders paradise of Karkloof which also features the acclaimed Karkloof Canopy Tour.

Gecko Hill in Montrose Reviewed by Brad Mcgregor, China on . Very comfortable and spacious! The guesthouse had everything we needed within walking distance of a shopping centre; and a comfortable room with DSTV to watch at night. Sharon also went the extra mile with little things: stocking the kitchen with daily items eg. milk; coffee; tea, and offering to wash our clothes. That was a nice touch. Sharon is really friendly and caring to her guests; but also gives people their space.
