Description
The Ruiterbosch valley is centrally located in the foothills of the Outeniqua mountains. When one drives on the R328 from Oudtshoorn, and descends the Robinson Pass, even the most jaded traveller is surprised at the sudden change in scenery and climate. The hot and dry Karoo has been replaced by beautiful forest shrouded in mist with the Indian Ocean glittering in the distance. Most motorists accelerate at this point to reach Mossel Bay, scarcely 30 km away. The less hasty will, however, stop at either the nearby hotel or at the newly opened Ruiterbosch Lodge for refreshments or to just sit back and admire one of the most scenic spots on earth. The owner of Ruiterbosch Lodge, Ernest Collett has travelled widely (over 40 countries) and was living in exotic India when, during a holiday in South Africa, he stumbled on this beautiful valley and found an old Cape cottage and stables that has been converted to a guest house and wedding venue.

Discerning travellers, who appreciate nature, would love to make this their base for exploring the Oudtshoorn, Cango caves and Garden Route area.

Stayed over for a wedding close by. <em>Scenery</em> was breath taking and accommodation comfy and welcoming. Will recommend Ruiterbosch lodge without a doubt. Of all the places we stayed over the last 3 weeks, this one gets top marks for their bed linen and the warm welcome from our hostess. The cottage is very small, we felt that it could be a bit cleaner, but taken into consideration that the new owners had just taken over 2 weeks prior to our stay, it was quite enjoyable. Lovely setting, peaceful and safe.
