Description
Located in a bowl in the mountains on the historic Bainskloof pass between Wellington and Worcester, Jervaux is the quintessence of Old Cape charm and tranquillity. Surrounded by pristine Fynbos, with wrap-around views and over 400 meters of unspoiled river, including a large natural swimming pool, the Cape Dutch Cottage is the perfect place to relax and enjoy life's simple pleasures.

The Cape Dutch Cottage has one double bedroom en-suite, and is built in old Cape style with antique furniture. As it is on the far side of the river, access is via boat and a short walk. It has stunning views up the Kloof, and across the Breede river valley wine-lands to Mostert's twin peaks. The cottage has Eskom electricity and water is sourced from a natural rock spring on the property.

The property is well situated for a variety of activities, including wine tasting, both in the Breede River valley and over the pass in the Wellington and Paarl area, the property borders the Limietberg nature reserve on one side and vineyards on the other, from the rustic Calabash bush pub up the road to more upmarket options at some of the neighbouring wine estates, or just enjoying the peace and tranquility of the Cape mountains. There is a large pool in the river for swimming and the water is crystal clear, the entire Kloof upstream is protected reserve. In winter, the surrounding peaks are often snow-covered.

Upstream the Wit Rivier flows through the Limietberg Nature Reserve and is unspoiled. Firewood is usually available on site and is free.

Jervaux in Bainskloof Reviewed by Tanith Grant, South Africa on . Long weekend at Jervaux
My partner and I had the loveliest stay at Jervaux. We weren't sure what we needed to bring - so we packed a lot of crockery, bedding, etc that we didn't really need. Although I do love my own pillow and feather duvet - which we did end up using. We also used our own coffee plunger and non-stick frying pan. Otherwise everything else you need is provided - including matches, toilet paper and towels even. There is electricity now (Eskom dependent). But the stove and shower works off gas. The shower isn't super hot - but warm enough.

The cottage has a lovely homely feel and is perfect for a restful getaway. The bed is super comfortable! Lovely couch in front of the fire. And gorgeous veranda to look out on the view.

Jo, the host, was so accommodating and helpful. We felt bad that he insisted on helping us cart all our gear across the river in the boat and carry it to our front door!

We had two gorgeous weather days - allowing us to explore the little river and surrounds, Then two rainy, windy days - perfect for gluwine and fire inside.

Ideal inter or summer getaway!
